The anode has an anode body (1) and an anode shaft (5) connected to the body. The connection between the anode body and anode shaft is secured by laser welding. The anode body has a through opening (6) for the anode shaft and the laser welding (9a-9d) is performed between the free end of the section of shaft in the opening and the anode body. The free end of the section of anode shaft in the through opening has a recess (10) enclosed by a thin-walled section (11). The laser weld is made between the wall section and the anode body. The anode shaft can be a press fit into the anode body opening.
