Apparatus and method for inductive hardening of profiled camshafts

The apparatus for inductive hardening of profiled camshafts, with the camshaft during the hardening process surrounded by an inductor and heated by means of a magnetic field emanating from this inductor, is characterized by the following facts: a) the inductor (1) has several axial and radial branches (2, 3) carrying induction currents during the hardening process; b) the axial branches are provided with core laminations (5) serving for radially focussing the magnetic field; c) the position and width of the laminations (5) are adjusted to the surface profile of the camshaft in such a way that the focussing is directed towards zones with a smaller diameter. The claim covering a method to be used with the apparatus is summarized below.
