The device has a chain (2) which revolves with a belt (1) and which is axially fixed on the transporting rollers on each side of the belt. Means for fixing the position of the belt relative to the chain are provided on each chain. The chain has a clamping device (4) for the edge of the belt. A yoke (5) is installed on several chain links on the side facing the belt and upon it lies the edge of the belt. The edge of the belt is held by a spring clip (7) located on the yoke.
