The component is in the form of a hollow support member, which is filled with foam. The foam is formed by partially filling the member with a foamable powder, or granular material of a desired consistency. After the material is introduced into the members, energy is applied to it, which may be in the form of heat, high frequency waves or microwaves. The energy transforms the material into a foam which completely fills the member. The applied energy can act either directly or indirectly on the material.
