The wiper (10) has a shaft journal with an axle. An arm base (14) is fixed to the shaft journal. A wiper arm (16) with an open end section (22A) is rotatably connected to the arm base with a swing support (20) having an axle. A wiper blade (30) at the end section of the wiper arm moves to and fro over the windscreen, between an initial position and an open position, to wipe the screen at a contact angle between a centre axis of the wiper arm and the normal to the screen. The swing support is arranged such that its axis is inclined on a negative side to the normal to the screen if a direction where the wiper blade moves from the initial position towards the open position is positive. The wiper arm is curved between the swing support and the wiper blade to correct the contact angle of the wiper blade in such a way that it is always positive.
