The drive transmission uses a wave generator for deformation of an elastic wheel pressed into contact with a concentric rigid wheel (8) provided by a pair of relative hinged sections. A variable gap (18) is provided between the cooperating ends of the hinged sections, and the transmission ratio altered by varying the gap width via one or more piezoelectric or magnetostrictive actuators (15).
