1294690 Forms of wood ATLANTIC RICHFIELD CO 21 Oct 1969 [23 Oct 1968] 51620/69 Heading B5L [Also in Divisions C3 and E1] A wood-plastic product comprises wood fillets assembled into a tile structure having at least one surface impregnated with a polymer composition formed in situ by high energy radiation polymerization of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer or a composition containing such monomer. The preferred materials in forming the product are red oak fillets and methyl methacrylate monomer; other materials are also specified however. The wood fillets may be assembled together by bonding to a common backing, Fig. 2, or by using mechanical means, e.g. splining, stapling or edgefastening. After the wood has been impregnated with monomer and the latter polymerized, the wood surface is desirably treated to provide a flat, smooth finish, e.g. by sanding (rough trim then fine trim), polishing with polishing wheels (paste-polishing then dry-polishing) and finally buff-wiping. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,251,048.
|
