<p>An analytical instrument (12) measures carbon content of a liquid sample (24). The instrument (12) includes a sample inlet (20), a reagent inlet (44), a rinsing solution inlet (48), a reaction chamber (30), a waste outlet (54) and a syringe pump (14). A multiple port valve (18) has a plurality of ports (A-H) which are coupled to the sample inlet (20), the reagent inlet (44), the rinse solution inlet (48), the reaction chamber (30) and the waste outlet (54). The valve (18) also includes a primary port (16) coupled to the syringe pump (14) and selectively fluidically couplable to each of the remaining ports (A-H).</p> |
