Electronic device with screen comprising a user customisable menu

The telephone has a screen and a memory (34) which is used to store a menu composed of items that can have values set by the user. A display driver (11) displays the menu on the screen and a lock/unlock control (38) prevents or allows alteration of the menu items. A display/mask control operates in conjunction with the lock/unlock control to selectively display or hide the menu items which are respectively unlocked and locked. The telephone has a keypad on the front and allows selection of a manual mode. In manual mode, the lock/unlock control is operated by a key. In automatic mode, the frequency of use of the different menu items is used for automatic alteration of the menu.
