According to a method for transmitting data of the invention, a system detects the amount of data which can be transferred, and divides the data to be transferred into a plurality of data blocks so that it forms a list. A transfer device refers to the list and carries out an inputting and outputting processing between a VTR or a network and a memory. Thus, the data can be efficiently transmitted at high speed with high reliability and without depending on a system configuration.
