PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the changeover of resolution, high speed multicolor printing and continuous printing operation of a large number of printing sheets. SOLUTION: A drum having a printing medium M capable of being held to the outer peripheral surface thereof and rotatable centering around its axial line at a constant peripheral speed, respective color nozzle units arranged to the periphery of the drum so as to be positionally shifted in the rotary direction of the drum and having a large number of ink jet nozzles 207a-207n and a unit moving means moving the color nozzle units in the axial line direction of the drum are provided and the unit moving means is formed so as to make the color nozzle units movable by 1/N the pitch PT between the ink jet nozzles during one rotation of the drum and color printing can be applied to the printing medium M in resolving power N times the resolution determined by the pitch PT between the ink jet nozzles by utilizing the N-time rotation of the drum. |
