PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-contg. lubricant which is flame-retardant and is excellent in the effect of reducing metal wear and friction by compounding a lube base oil, a polyether soluble in the lube base oil, a surfactant, a compd.(BJ) selected from among a benzothiazole compd., a mercaptobenzothiazole compd., and a dithiocarbamic acid compd., and water as the essential ingredients. SOLUTION: The lube base oil is pref. a hydrocarbon base oil such as a mineral base oil or a synthetic base oil and pref. has a kinematic viscosity at 40 deg.C of 1-500mm<2> /s. The polyether used is, e.g. an alkylene oxide of a higher mercaptan having a 5-30C alkyl group and pref. has an HLB of 4.0 or lower, a number-average mol.wt. of 1,000-20,000, and a kinematic viscosity at 40 deg.C of 50-500mm<2> /s. The surfactant used is nonionic or anionic. An examples of the compd. (BJ) is benzothiazole. The lubricant contains 10-70wt.% lube base oil. 1-60wt.% polyether, 5-40wt.% surfactant, 0.1-5.0wt.% compd.(BJ). and 15-60wt.% water. |
