PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably produce a lithium double oxide of uniform composition by mixing a compound containing transition metal and a compound containing an alkali metal element, firing the mixture and firing the resultant oxide together with a lithium-containing compound. SOLUTION: In the production of a lithium double oxide represented by the formula: Liw Ax My Oz (A is an alkali metal element; M is a transition metal element and comprises 1 or 2 or more kinds of elements; 0<w<=2; 0<x<=0.5; 0<y<=3; 1.5<z<=4.0), the one-step firing of a mixture comprising the whole compounds as raw materials seldom give a uniform composition. Thus, for example, in the first step, 1 mole of nickel oxide and 0.1 mole of potassium hydroxide are mixed in a crucible and the mixture is placed in a firing board and fired in air at 700 deg.C for 12 hours. In the second step, the resultant oxide is crushed, mixed with 1.0 mole of lithium hydroxide and the mixture is placed and fired in a firing board under the same conditions. |
