PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a biologically active cement composition which is never deteriorated in mechanical characteristic even when it is buried in a living body for a long period, and can be chemically bonded to a natural bone by making alumina powder in the biologically active cement composition contain at least δ-Al2 O3 crystal, γ-Al2 O3 crystal, or amorphous alumina. SOLUTION: A biologically active cement composition is formed of alumina powder, Ca-containing inorganic powder, dimethacrylate monomer, polymerization initiator, and polymerization inhibitor, and the alumina powder contains at least-δ-Al2 O3 crystal, γ-Al2 O3 crystal or amorphous alumina. As the alumina powder, general alumina powder having the crystalline structure of α-Al2 O3 is prepared, and those having an average grain size of 10μm or less are used. The alumina powder is then suddenly heated to 1500 deg.C or more to fuse and glass it followed by quenching. According to this method, chemically unstable, i.e., biologically active alumina powder containing at least δ-Al2 O3 crystal, γ-Al2 O3 crystal or amorphous alumina can be provided. |
