PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject pigment improved in characteristics such as black color degree and gloss and capable of simultaneously satisfying handleability and dispersibility by coating the press-moldings of carbon black. SOLUTION: The pigment is obtained by press-molding carbon black (preferably furnace black) and subsequently coating the product. The coating preferably comprises a thermoplastic material or a material dissolved in a coating. The press-molding of the carbon black is preferably carried out by press-molding powdery and/or granular carbon black with a pressure of 2-500kgf/cm<2> . Thereby, a coating capable of being used as a back coating for magnetic tapes can be provided.
