PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce graphite having geometrical holes, such as round or polygonal holes, with regular spacings by boring minute holes at least in the first atomic layer of the graphite with electron beams and heating the graphite. SOLUTION: This carbon material, which has round holes, round holes in combination of different hole diameters, or polygonal holes at least in the first atomic layer of the graphite surface, is produced by forming one or more fine holes in the graphite surface by radiation of electron beams, convergent ion beams or convergent electron beams, or with a scanning tunnel microscope or interatomic force microscope, and growing the hole by heating, for example, at 1,500-3,500 deg.C, until the hole diameter becomes 500nm at maximum, thereby forming round holes of a combination of different round holes in the material, or until the hole diameter becomes 500nm or larger, thereby forming polygonal holes in the material. The higher the heating temperature and the longer the heating time, the larger the holes grow. |
