PURPOSE:To oscillate light over a wide wavelength range and simplify connection with a fiber optic to use a light amplifier having a wide band by employing as a laser medium a fluoride gloss fiber containing Er in the form of Er<3+>. CONSTITUTION:High output semiconductor laser of GaInAsP with oscillation wavelength of 1.48mum or of INGaAs with oscillation wavelength of 0.98mum is provided as an excitation light source 2 at an end of a fiber laser medium 1. At this time the semiconductor laser is placed so that laser oscillation intensity is maximum. By radiating from the semiconductor laser 2 as mentioned above, Er<3+> in the fiber laser medium 1 is excited and emits light with transition accompanied by radiation. Among the emission spectra, only resonator length, that is, such wavelength that satisfies a relation determined by intervals of a half mirror and a total reflection mirror, is selectively amplified and laser- oscillated, which is to be output through the half mirror. The fiber laser medium can be also utilized as a light amplifier when connected at a relay point of fiber optics. |
