PURPOSE:To enable multi nozzles of a head to be easily obtained and to obtain excellent gradation and stability of discharge, by providing a meniscus position control means with which a position of a meniscus in a nozzle is varied, and a heat energy application timing control means with which heat energy application timing by a heat energy additional means is varied. CONSTITUTION:A heating element 13 which is established on a substrate on which a nozzle is formed and is an energy source for discharging an ink drop, a piezoelectric element 16 for vibrating a meniscus in a plurality of nozzles 12 by giving vibration to a common liquid chamber 14 which is established on an upper surface of a top board 15, and an ink supply pipe 17 for supplying ink which is interconnected to the common liquid chamber 14 are provided. A certain rectangular pulse as given in (a) is applied to a piezoelectric element 10 by using a recording head 10 and simultaneously, a certain rectangular pulse as given in (b) is applied to the heating element 13. At that time, by changing application timing T of a pulse to be applied to the heating element 13 against a pulse to be applied to the piezoelectric element 16, an ink amount discharged from the discharge port 12A is varied. Therefore, a size of a recording dot formed on the recording paper varies as given in (c). |
