PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline secondary battery in which safety under abnormal high temperature is improved. SOLUTION: This battery comprises an electrode group 5 stored in a container 1 and fabricated by interposing a separator between a positive electrode 2 and a negative electrode 4, an alkaline electrolyte stored in the container 1, a sealing plate 7 disposed at an opening of the container 1 and having a degassing hole 6, a cap shaped terminal disposed at the sealing plate 7 so as to cover the degassing hole 6 and having a gas passing hole 11, and an elastic valve element 12 disposed in a compressed state so as to close the degassing hole 6 between the sealing plate 7 and the terminal. The elastic valve element 12 is made of a rubber-based material in which a compression permanent strain is 15% or more at 150 deg.C, and a hardness rise is within 3 degree at 150 deg.C. |
