PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the frequency of a switching operation between modes and to realize a smooth operation environment when an overwriting mode and an insertion mode are switched and characters can be inputted. SOLUTION: When a document is updated at the overwriting mode, CPU 1 switches the mode to the insertion mode and inserts the characters inputted from an input device 3 before a pause mark if the character in a position to which the character inputted from the input device 3 is to be overwritten is the pause mark of punctuation and parenthesis mark. Then, the update of the document is continued at the insertion mode until the pause mark is inputted from the input device 3. |
