PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the channel selection device in which mode selection by the user is avoided, no much time is required for channel selection, excellent image quality is obtained and a large memory capacity is not required to store frequency data. SOLUTION: In the case of receiving a CATV broadcast signal having a plurality of broadcast modes (each mode of STD broadcast, HRC broadcast and IRC broadcast), an arithmetic circuit 19 at first starts channel selection in the STD mode, a synchronizing signal and an AFT signal are used for locking, an offset frequency from an STD mode frequency f0 is stored, and the offset is compared with an offset being a criterion of each mode to discriminate and store the broadcast mode. At a succeeding channel selection, when an input circuit 21 designates a channel, a channel start frequency is decided based on the offset from the STD corresponding to the mode already discriminated and the channel selection is entered.
