<p>A method of making a tile utilizing a synthetic resin in combination with an upper veneer layer so as to provide an environmentally superior floor tile is disclosed. A resin admixture is prepared through a metering device while simultaneously adding catalyst from a catalyst source so that the catalized mixture is deposited on a continuous steel belt. The tile base (37) is sized and gauged to a desired size, followed by mating an upper veneer layer on the tile. The upper layer is selected from the group consisting of an acrylic impregnated wood veneer (43) and a hardwood veneer having a vinyl upper layer (45). The veneer is bonded to the tile base with a fabric and an adhesive (39) and pressure. The upper mated tile is then sized to a final desired tile size and configuration.</p> |
