The present invention is related generally to pressure monitoring, and more particularly to a pressure activated counter used to record pressure events in excess of a predetermined threshold. The device is of particular utility for use with s ewage pipe and plumbing networks for monitoring pump run events or mechanical alternat ing valves. The device is a pump cycle counter (PCC), lateral dosing counter (LDC), or dosing counter (DC) and comprises a magnetic counter actuated by a magnetic body in response to a pressure event. The device comprises a counter enclosure or housin g, a magnetically actuated counter carried therein, and a magnetic body carried upwar dly and downwardly by a diaphragm in response to an increase in pressure to be monitored . The device may include a spring mounted for movement with the magnetic body in a spr ing and magnet cup and a threaded coupling. The device is inexpensive, easy to manuf acture and operate, requires no battery or continuous electrical source, has an inheren t trip point to prevent false triggers due to pump start up surge, and is easily retrofitable.
