The tunnel has a lining tube (1) supported by insulating discs (2) at regular intervals along the tunnel, transverse to the axis of the tunnel. The discs are supported by longitudinal wires (5) that run parallel to the axis of the tunnel. The very high tension conductor passes along the central axis of the tunnel, passing through holes in the centre of the insulating discs, which support and insulate the conductor. The support wires (5) are tensioned where they pass through the two discs (3) that close the tube at either end. Two discs (4) close the tunnel at either end. Cooling air is injected into the tube through a hose (8) connected to one end plate (4).
