Control of internal combustion engine driving radiator or air-conditioning fan

The engine control is implemented in the electronic system that controls operation of the engine. When the temperature of the working fluid in the engine cooling system or air-conditioner reaches a set level a control signal is generated to stop or start the fan (5). This signal is detected and the program controlling operation of the engine adjusts the actuator control signals to vary the control of the engine to take account of the sudden increase in load when the fan is started. Alternatively under certain engine operating conditions the activation of the fan is delayed. The controller may also adjust the speed of the fans and the number of fans brought into service where there are more than one fans.
