The submarine cable protector is in the shape of a sleeve formed in two halves (22,42). The two halves are fitted over the cable (65) and clamped together. Each half of the protector is half-cylindrical in shape, with one end enlarged (21,41) and the other end forming a spherical shape (25,45) when assembled. The enlarged end has a curved inner profile (27,47) that fits closely over the spherical end of the adjacent protector when the two halves are assembled. The ends of adjacent protectors form a ball and socket coupling. A handle (28,48) is moulded on the outside of the enlarged end to simplify separation of the two halves when access is required to the cable or to insert another length of protector.
