<p>The present invention relates to compositions for the topical treatment of periodontal disease and breath malodor, comprising: (a) a safe and effective amount of polymyxin A, B, C, D, E, and salts or mixtures thereof; and (b) a pharmaceutically-acceptable topical, oral carrier. The present invention also relates to a method of treating or preventing periodontal disease and/or breath malodor, in the oral cavity of a human or other animal by topically applying to the oral cavity tissues of the human or other animal, a safe and effective amount of the above composition. Such compositions include toothpastes, tooth gels, tooth powders, mouthwashes, mouth sprays, prophylaxis pastes, dental treatment solutions, lozenges, chewing gums, and the like.</p> |
