PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently recognize the necessary information such as traffic jam information or road information by displaying the traffic information on a map of present position circumference displayed on a display screen, and suppressing the display of the traffic information in a prescribed range of the display screen. SOLUTION: A road map data reading means 105 reads a road map data designated on the basis of its own car position by an image converting means 104 from a road map data memory means 102. A display means 106 displays an image formed of a road map or traffic information display according to the display signal from the image converting means 104. A traffic information display suppressing means 108 performs the non-display or weak tone display of the traffic information within a prescribed traffic information suppressing range when the traffic information is displayed on the road map on the display means 106 on the basis of its own vehicle position detected by a vehicle position detecting means 103 and the traffic information received by a traffic information receiving means 101. A traffic information weak tone display means 109 sets the display of traffic information to an inconspicuous color or form to reduce the visual confirmability of a user.
