PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a miniaturized optical pickup system having a simple structure. SOLUTION: This system is provided with a light source 210 for generating a light beam consisting of P and S polarization components, a λ/4 plate 230 for converting the polarization component of the incident light, and a beam splitter 220 for making so that only the P polarization component is used for reading out an information signal recorded on an optical disk 250 by the optical pickup system in such a manner that the P polarization component is refected toward the optical disk 250 and the S polarization component is transmitted, while being positioned at the side opposite to the optical disk 250 as to the λ/4 plate 230. |
