PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetostrictive drive type motor which shortens the positioning setting time of a robot, and contributes to the downsizing of the robot or a machine tool, with its length in the thrusting direction short. SOLUTION: A magnetostrictive drive type motor 1 is equipped with a stator 2, in which a plurality of coils 23a-23d for generating magnetic fields are wound inside, a rotor 3 which is arranged arranged apart inside stator 2 and has an output shaft for transmitting torque to the outside and also consists of magnetostrictive material transformed by applying a magnetic filed, and a drive means which gives a magnetic field to plural stator coils 23a-23f by letting currents flow sequentially in a specified order, and elongates the rotor 3 in elliptic form, in the direction which passes the center of the stator 2 and also drives it in order of the specified rotational direction, while pressing it against the inside periphery of the stator 2. As a result, the positioning setting time of the robot can be shortened by about 30% as compared to a conventional system, and this does not need a speed reducer, so that the length in the thrusting direction can be shortened, and the downsizing can be realized. |
