The catheter has a dilatation balloon at the far end of its shaft. A constant diameter covering sleeve (4) is movable along the catheter shaft and consists of a first section (10) with internal diameter (D1), and a second section (11) with larger internal diameter (D2) movable over the deflated dilatation balloon. The covering sleeve at the outer end of the second section has a third, constant diameter section (12) with a third internal diameter (D3) between the first and second diameters. Parts of the covering sleeve have constant diameter, flexible reinforcement (13). The inserted part (10,12) of the covering sleeve is formed by a longitudinally slit tension element (14) tightly enclosing the catheter shaft. The covering sleeve has tubing (15) pulled over the reinforcement and tension element. |
