The machine consists of a trolley (4) which carries a pleated plastic sleeve (1) which deploys as the bales (2,2') are inserted into it through a transverse frame (6) which carries the pleated sleeve. The trolley platform has a projecting hook (47) which engages with a coupling element (39) on a shield plate (34) with a spike (35) or forks on a balehandling jib mounted on a tractor. As the bale is inserted through the frame and into the sleeve the coupling engages with the hook, enabling the tractor to pull the trolley forward and deploy the next section of sleeve.
