A paper feed roller is capable of providing highly accurate, stable feeding power in both forward and reverse directions regardless of the direction of rotation of the paper feed roller. In order to permit stable, accurate paper feed for an extended use, a plurality of protuberances (22c,22d) are formed by partly projecting the outer peripheral surface of a metallic shaft (20) by subjecting the metallic shaft to plastic working. Each of the protuberances is shaped nearly like a semi-dome composed of a vertical plane oriented to the direction of the rotation of the paper feed roller and a quarter-sphere surface continuing from the vertical plane, and the orientations of the vertical planes are alternately shifted for each row of protuberances. <IMAGE> |
