The apparatus uses a flexible endoscope to the end of which a measuring probe is fitted. The measuring probe has an optical fibre bundle (11) enclosed by an outer sheath provided with equal-distant markings, with an optical imaging unit (14) and a beam deflector (15), for directing light onto the interior of the body aperture (3) at its distal end. A second imaging unit (6) is provided at the proximal and of the endoscope for providing an image at a detector (4). Image coordinate points corresponding to lumen markings (10) are stored and processed for controlling a display.
