FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, applicable in steel-smelting process. SUBSTANCE: molten iron is cast in ingot moulds of casting machine after preliminary filling of it with oxide-containing material. In the process of iron casting or blank moulding additional agitation of materials in the ingot mould is accomplished. To this end, a reagent initiating agitation is introduced. Liquid or solid material whose sublimation, vaporization or ignition temperature is below the cast iron is used as a reagent of initiating agitation. Wooden balls, rice straw, waste of coffee-making process, chips, perlite or vermiculite, aqueous solutions of alkali metal salts or low-melting-point metals: sodium or potassium chlorides, magnesium or introduced in the form of fraction particles measuring 0.1 to 5.0 mm before introduction of oxide- containing material. For refining of molten iron slag-forming materials containing metal oxides are introduced. EFFECT: production of qualitative pigs homogeneous in composition. 9 cl, 1 tbl
