<p>Fitting glass objects etc. with plastic sleeves which are prefabricated as an exact fit, cut into two or more sections, dilated to allow them to be fitted over the glass object and then promptly shrunk to fit. Dilation is effected by heating to 60-80 degrees C, contraction by quenching to 5010 degrees C. For temporary or permanent protection of bottles, jars etc. during transit, storage use. Temperature swing can be achieved rapidly and simply by dipping the sleeves into thermostatted water baths. Ensures a good dit by cheaper and more rapid process overall than use of oriented heat shrinkable preforms or of vacuum fitting techniques, requires inexpensive equipment and unskilled labour (Mfr. of precisely dimensioned preforms not discussed).</p> |
