A surfacing for protecting ship's drive components includes an outer layer containing copper particles. This layer is integral with the component, the copper particles being at least partly exposed on the outer surface. Preferably the component is made of a fibrous composite material with a resin matrix. The copper particles are embedded in the outer resin layer. The particle size is 10-1000 mu m. Copper fabric may be included in the outer layer.
