FIELD: treatment of surfaces of metalographic specimens under laboratory conditions; grinding and polishing semi-precious and jewelry stones. SUBSTANCE: surface of mineral to be treated is saturated with hydrogen, after which chemical activator is used. Chemical activator is selected on the condition of generation of local exothermic reaction which gives rise to physico-chemical destruction of surface being treated.
