The body (7) of the roller (2) is divided by at least one annular groove round it (33) into at least two adjacent, cylindrical parts. The body consists of relatively movable parts which can be spaced apart by a threaded spindle (131) or pneumatically or be right next to each other. The roller can be in the form of an applicator roller cooperating with a printing cylinder.
