The application relates to a purely electrical battery-powered urban bus, which is economically no longer inferior to a conventional diesel urban bus. This object is achieved in part by the use of a long-term battery and a short-term accumulator (flywheel) with recuperation of the kinetic and potential energy of the vehicle mass using the power electronics. In addition an absolutely optimum value is achieved for the ratio of payload (passengers) to the unladen weight of the vehicle by means of optimum axle load distribution, independent wheel drive with single tyres and a low-floor over the entire passenger compartment.
