Here is a new way to make packing sheet, used especially to wrap round palletised goods, securing them for transport. In the new method, perforations (5) are stamped into the material (1). The length (L) of the holes transverse to the run of the sheet (X) is greater than their length (l) parallel to the run. Also claimed is the plant to carry out the process, comprising essentially a preferred sequence of equipment, each carrying out the phases described. Preferably the holes are oval, arranged transversely across the sheet in rows, which are successively offset. Holes are stamped; their aspect ratio 4:1. Before and/or after perforation, the sheet is stretched, applying heat. Stretching widens and enlarges the holes in transverse and longitudinal directions. The sheet is then smoothed and wound up.
