摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce deterioration in transmission characteristics due to the collision of pulses with different-wavelength and obtain superior transmission characteristics by expanding the pulse width of an input light pulse and then amplifying the pulse by a proper optical amplifier repeater. SOLUTION: The optical amplifying and repeating transmission line 10 is constituted by connecting plural optical fibers 16 (16-1 to 16-4) for transmission is series by optical amplifier repeaters 18 (18-1 to 18-3). Further, equalizing fibers 20 which compensates different-wavelength dispersion to zero are inserted at proper intervals. Each optical amplifier repeater 18 is composed of a pulse- width expanding element 18a and an optical amplifier 18b. An optical fiber 16 for transmission which is connected to the output of this optical amplifier repeater 18 needs to be an optical fiber which is more enhanced in pulse-width expanding operation by the nonlinearity of a refractive index by means of wavelength dispersion.
