PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium battery, having high initial charge and discharge efficiency by applying the constitution that a carbonaceous negative electrode capable of storing and releasing lithium is made to come in contact with propylene gas at the time of housing the negative electrode in a sealed vessel, together with a positive electrode having the capability of releasing and storing lithium. SOLUTION: An active material layer 2, containing LiCoO2 or the like is formed on a positive electrode current collector 1 such as an aluminum foil, and a positive electrode, is thereby prepared. On the other hand, a negative electrode active material layer 4 containing a carbonaceous material such as graphite is formed on a negative electrode current collector 3 such as a copper foil, and a negative electrode is thereby prepared. The positive electrode having the capability of releasing and storing lithium, and the negative electrode having the capability of storing and releasing lithium according to the development of charging and discharging processes are stacked via a separator 5, and housed in a negative electrode can 6. Thereafter, the can is filled with an organic electrolyte and sealed with a positive electrode cap 7 via a gasket 9, thereby providing a lithium secondary battery. In this case, the negative electrode is kept in contact with propylene gas and/or ethylene gas for deposition on the surface thereof before sealing the battery. According to this construction, the decomposition reaction of the organic electrolyte is suppressed, and the initial charging and discharging efficiency of the battery is increased approximately to 100%. |
