PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an obstacle detector for vehicle which can be built in a vehicle neatly such that an ultrasonic oscillatory sensor can exhibit detection power sufficiently while being protected against damage by receiving the sensor in a recess and holding the sensor in place while touching the bottom of the recess. SOLUTION: A recess 3 is made in the rear surface of an outer shell 2 arranged around a vehicle 1. The recess 3 has thin bottom part 4 and an ultrasonic oscillatory sensor 5 is received therein and held in place while touching the bottom part 4 thereof. Furthermore, a cut 6 is made in the circumferential fringe part of the recess 3. The sensor 5 comprises a laminate of a ceramic disc 8 and a slightly larger metal base disc 9 connected, at the opposite ends thereof, through a wiring cord 7. The sensor 5 oscillates upon application of a high frequency signal to the ceramic 8 and the metal base 9 and generates an ultrasonic wave.
