PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the amount of distribution rapidly, easily, and accurately by cutting out a sample from a steel continuously casted mold piece and estimating a presence density by casting a mold inclusion from the number of inclusions being measured for each particle diameter section that has already been set. SOLUTION: A sample is cut out from a steel continuously cast piece. A defect number y within a range of sizes X0 -X1 (X1 =X0 +α) and a defect number yi within a range of sizes X1 -Xi (Xi =X0 +iα) being present in an actual measurement detection area Smm<2> of the sample are measured, and each defect number Y1 [Y1 =y1 x(A/S)],..., Yi [Yi =yi x(A/S)] that is estimated to exist in a standard inspection area Amm<2> using y1 , ..., yi is calculated. Then, a defect number Yn where a size is within a range of Xn-1 -Xn (Xn =X0 +nα) is estimated from the relationship of log Ym =aXm +b (a and b are constants determined by the depth from the molded piece surface), thus detecting the amount of distribution of a large inclusion rapidly, easily, and accurately.
