PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to display a destination at an optimum reduced scale corresponding to the scale of an area by reading the map of a reduced scale to the classification of the destination from a map data memory means and displaying the destination on the map of the reduced scale. SOLUTION: When a destination is inputted from a destination input means 2, the destination is classified by a destination classifying means 3 and the destination data stored in a map data memory means 6 is selected. The corresponding reduced scale value is determined by a reduced scale data memory means 4 according to the selected classification of the destination classifying means 3. The map data of the corresponding reduced scale is read by a map reduced scale selecting means 5 out of the map data of the respective reduced scales stored in the map data memory means 6 in accordance with the reduced scale value and the destination is displayed on the map and is displayed on a display means 7. The destination input means 2 has a classification setting key and is constituted to allow the selection of the classification including the addresses, such as prefectures, municipalities and lot numbers, corresponding to the destination, facilities, telephone exchange numbers of telephones, parks, mountains, lakes, the seaside, etc. |
