Seamless interchangeable claddings of PVC for the inside surfaces of electrolytic cells, are produced by spraying a PVC paste on the walls of a preheated mould corresp. to the inner cavity of the cell. The layer of paste is then hardened as normally by heating and the still hot cladding is removed from the mould and folded for shipment. The PVC paste is pref. applied in >2 layers separately, to the mould walls, each layer being briefly prehardened at gelling temp. Process cheapens the cost of the cells for copper and zinc electrolysis, and eliminates energy losses due to short circuiting as well as other leakages. through the seams of the lead lining. A more viscous material with less plasticiser can be used than for casting a lining. There are no joints and there is no danger of damage as when plaster of Paris has to be scraped off with wood or metal tools.
|
