The component secures a loose insole, particularly inside an open-heeled shoe. In the installed position, its edge (4) is at right angles to the surface of the main sole (9), and curves round the heel end of the insole (2). Tongues (5-8) at this point secure it to the insole. The component can be of flexible material such as leather, and before installation is can comprise a flat rectangular strip, to which the tongues are joined at one side via a fold line (11), gaps (12) being left between them. Alternatively, the component can consist of rigid materail such as a rivet, or plastic of limited flexibility.
