The craft has a rigid gunwale (16) which fits into stem and stern blocks (20). A number of parallel ribs is located below the gunwale and also hinged into the stern and stem blocks. An outside skin (22) made of waterproof canvas is stretched over the ribs so as to form the hull of the vessel. The hull is kept in shape by means of stretchers (76) fixed to the gunwale and the keel. The thwarts (90) are slotted to fix in the stretchers and provide the final supports for the frame. Hinged bottom boards are also supported by the stringers.
