An automatic rifle with a sleeve in front of the chamber contg. a cartridge holder with a recess at the rear for the head of the cartridge, as in the main patent, has the rear of the sleeve, which forms the rear part of the barrel projecting inside the open end of the holder. This open end terminates in an enlarged dia. chamber inside the breach, so that additional space is formed for retaining the combustion gases resulting from the firing of the cartridges. They partly surround the gas escape orifice and discharge into the chambers between the barrel extension sleeve and interior of the holder. The rifle may be used for killing animals, for sealing purposes etc.
